• The Web site must be dedicated solely to the subject at hand. No other subject matter may be covered within the Site's content.
• Professional appearance and presentation. Pleasing overall look and feel.
• Positioning of graphics and text should take advantage of use of tables and means other than simply centering everything.
• Large graphics should have a thumbnail image, description or other alternative representation in order to allow the visitor to view the full size image at their discretion.
• There must be interactivity, such as Guestbooks, Bulletin Boards and Chat Rooms!
• Content on the site must be significant and original. Subjects must be given more than cursory examination.
• There should be very few, if any of broken links.
• No broken links to images. These look awful and generally mean that you haven't taken the time to verify the links when you put them up.
• Content should be updated regularly.
• Site should be well-organized and easy to navigate with obvious navigational aids. For example, it shouldn't take more than one "click" to get to the main page.
• When images, Java or other navigational aids are used, alternative text links should be present to allow visitors who use older browsers to navigate your site.
• There can be no "Under Construction" signs! Websites must at least be completed with the main pages, before launching. (It is understood that after all, all sites are under construction)
• Contact Information should be easy to locate.
• Images and pages should load quickly.
• Text should be easy to read and contrast well with background colors or graphics.
• Site should be designed to be viewable by a variety of web browsers and plug-ins must not be required to view the sites main content.
• Automatic MIDI's that play when a page loads up can be irritating. If you have them, be considerate and put the player at the top of the page where it can be turned off quickly.
• Sites with adult / pornography, racist, political attacks, religious prejudice, hateful or generally tasteless content will be terminatted.
• Avoid some irritating gimicks such as one of those JavaScript pop-up windows asking a visitor for their name. Some visitors get irritated and don't bother looking any further. These are both pointless and annoying. This may not be fair but that's the way it is!
• The site must present something original that makes a visitor want to come back again (be it graphics, information, interactivity, or just the fountain of your wisdom). Not just a bunch of links to somebody else's page.
• The site must be "pleasing to the eye" yet not take a lifetime to load. Not everyone will have the "luxury" of a cable modem. A load time of 1 - 1 1/2 minutes is too much asking. New Technologies (Java, Shockwave, Real Audio...) are always a plus as long as they don't require some rarely used plug-in. Remember, your main page makes the first impression... so it should be a good one!
